Quality and completeness
As a MODCo Artist, you have been chosen from among the best, so we expect the best in standards in creation. We recognize that you have the extraordinary talent in crafting content for your chosen game(s), so we respect your ability to make your content as you see fit. However, we do still have some basic requirements that we expect artists to follow. The basic guideline is that if you are creating content to put into a game, that content should be complete, and fully functioning for what it is.
This means things like:
- If an item requires multiple different 3D models, all of those models should be updated accordingly for your new design. Your content should never revert to displaying the original 3D model, whether that be with LODs, geometry states, modular components, etc.
- The exception to this would be props used in animation sequences as part of an item interaction. We don't expect you to rewrite game interactions when the original generic props will likely work just fine.
- If the in-game functionality of a piece of content involves animation or deformation, your content should animate or deform accordingly to match.
- All texture images or materials present in any content should be updated to match your new design.
- Some games may use a standard structure of textures, such a diffuse/normal/specular or albedo/normal/roughness/metallic setup. If your content does not need to use a specific texture, you can use a blank version or remove it, depending on what the game engine allows.
- You should not leave original textures in place that no longer match your new item design, as this will generally lead to rendering or display errors.
- Any auxiliary components of an item should be updated as needed to match your new design. The details of this will vary from game to game.
HOWEVER, most of us are modders here and we know that, just because you're brilliant at something, doesn't mean you know every part of it. It's easy to not understand the purpose of an obscure texture, but instead, we operate as a team here - a family where an artist can say "can anyone just show me what I'm supposed to do with this - I never used to bother". There's no judgement here, only help.
Polygon counts
We don't have hard and fast rules (we let users decide), but we do like all level-of-detail meshes provided to create a quality product. You can read about
polygon counts here.
Mature content
We're not a PG13 site so mature content is indeed permitted. Mild curse words/swearing is permitted on content. However, for anything particularly graphic, we will be opening a special X-MOD site just for this. Participation is entirely voluntary.
